Vikram Sambat (BS) to AD date converter

Jyotish Sarathi converts between Vikram Sambat (BS) and Gregorian (AD) dates offline, and the conversion is wired through the whole app rather than sitting in a separate utility — you can enter a birth date in BS and get a chart, or read a patro in BS with the AD date alongside.

Key takeaways

  • Convert BS to AD and AD to BS.
  • Works offline; no lookup service involved.
  • Available throughout the app — birth-date entry, the patro and the panchanga, not only in a converter screen.
  • Included in the Free plan.

Why the conversion is not a fixed offset

People often assume BS is simply AD plus 56 or 57 years. The year offset is roughly that, but the month lengths are the real problem: Vikram Sambat months do not have fixed lengths the way Gregorian months do. A Nepali month can run 29 to 32 days, and which length it takes in a given year depends on the solar calendar the year is built from.

That is why a mental "+56" gives the right year and the wrong date, and why a converter has to know the actual month lengths for the year in question rather than compute an offset. The guide to BS–AD conversion works through the details.

Where you will use it

  • Entering birth details — type the date in BS if that is how it is recorded on the birth certificate.
  • Reading the [patro](/features/patro) — BS and AD shown together for every day.
  • Panchanga lookups for a BS date.
  • The [cheena](/features/cheena) — dates printed in the calendar your client reads.
